Therefore, I wanted to list five guys I absolutely hated, but truthfully as a fan I don’t hate any wrestler. I respect every wrestler for the work he dose and the gifts he has. Truthfully, most of those who don’t make it in many cases isn’t there fault. In fact, it in most cases is mismanagement, bad creative concept, or nearsightedness of the fan. Every day these wrestler go out and give it their all and the day’s end it’s a combination of management, marketing, creative and fan reaction that cause these peoples career to live or die no matter how much they put into their work. John Cena will always be the guy that can’t wrestle, but most of the guys who say that can’t wrestle nowhere near as good as he can. It’s the same old age tale, those that can’t teach and those that can’t even teach watch and complain.
So instead I’m going to list five guys that are popular that I feel are not as great as people think. Does that mean I think they don’t deserve what they have or where they are going? No, it means I could live with or without them on Raw. They do not make me jump up and cheer like the rest of the marks.
Fist Daniel Bryan: The guy is a great worker and has learned to handle the mic great, but I hate the look. Can’t stand the beard its nasty. Don’t like his tree hugger mentality he’s a political moron. His organic specific life style is quite disturbing to watch. His only catch phrase is one word, which truthfully is better for his fan base considering most of their I.Q. Ever wonder why the catch phrase is so over? Personally, I think if anyone wants to get over today it seems like all they need to do is come up with a very common word and say it repeatedly. Like No, Yes, or What? That’s the mentality of the parrot and many of the fans. Most of all it’s the beard though.
Second RVD: I had been a fan of Rob for some time until I heard many interviews the man had off camera. He really did drink the ECW Kool-Aid. He is not concerned about wrestling. From many of the interviews I read Rob comes off as if he truly isn’t even sure about liking the job of being a wrestler. Finally, he’s a pot head. Don’t have time for a dumb ass stoner. He will never be more than he is, and that’s a shame. I know many of the fans will speak of his accolades, but truthfully, he never made that final tier.
Third Goldberg: As a guy he’s nice and I would never disparage his character, but he is a football player. Now I don’t say that as a bad thing, but if you listen to many of his interviews you see he thinks of wrestling as a fall back position. Now what he did with that was great but you wrestling fans will always play a secondary role to his football fans. His heart has never totally been in the job, and to cheer a guy like that over a guy like Cena who lives and dies for you is a shame and a disservice to wrestling.
HHH: While I have been a fan of everything he does part of me worries about what he did. When watching the past couple of decades seeing how things always went around HHH I am left with a mix feeling of great respect, but an underlying wonder of if he kept certain people down? This stigma will always make me wonder how he affected the landscape in a bad way while still understanding how many positive things he did to improve it, so with HHH it’s a mix feeling. In the end, he made the list, but I will still cheer him, but his time in the ring should be over along with his DX partner.
Fifth was hard, because many people deserved the spot. Brock Lesnar comes to mind as a part time player, but there are other guys who hurt their legacy by the way they live like Ric Flair, in the end I had to pick one name that affects everyone’s job.
Stephanie McMahon: While she has done many great things and behind the scenes many attribute her to great innovations, and truthfully she plays a great heel on TV and in the ring, it’s her writing that concerns me. She is head of WWE creative and much of the writing done, and her lack of over writing the product and not letting the wrestlers be themselves is responsible for the watered down product we have today. That puts her on this list and probably makes her the worst offender.
I know many people will gripe about the list. There will be arguments about who should have made it instead of whom, but that’s the point. As fans, we can complain and yell, but we need to get past all this little stuff and not worry about beards, and so forth because our product is in danger. The WWE keeps going thru the motions. For the last, many years that stagnant energy is starting to cost us, and if it keeps on coasting, it may be too late.
These blogs are not enough we need to find a way to get creative forces within the industry to listen and understand we won’t be around forever. Many fans have already made their choices known by the most vocal means necessary in turning the dial. Look at the millions of fans that watched during the Monday Night wars and you will find a black hole that swallowed up millions of fans. Now I heard many excuses from the shows rating to its length, but mostly the truth is the idea that little of what’s on is ‘must see TV’ and if it’s not then why watch?
The WWE needs to know what they have to change and how. Write them, E them tweet them. Quit going thru the motions and just cheer and play along. If we don’t stand up and ask for change pretty soon there will be nothing left to cheer for. It’s time we fans pushed thru a change.
