In the segment breakdown, the opener with Paul Heyman and Triple H started strong with a 3.32 quarter rating. CM Punk and Santino Marella vs. Cody Rhodes and Daniel Bryan plus the Beth Phoenix vs. Alicia Fox match lost 601,000 viewers. John Cena’s Make-A-Wish segment lost 370,000 viewers and did the lowest rated quarter in months with a 2.64 rating.

Kane vs. Big Show and John Laurinaitis firing Show gained 1,033,000 viewers for a 3.37 quarter rating. This was one of the best 10pm gains of the year for RAW. Brodus Clay, R-Truth and Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz, Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger lost 996,000 viewers.

Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho gained 108,000 viewers and the closing segment with Cena and Laurinaitis gained 990,000 viewers for a 3.43 overrun rating. This was among the best overrun gains of the year.

In the Show-Laurinaitis segment that gained so well, Male Teens went from a 2.0 to 2.6 rating, Female Teens went from a 0.8 to a 1.0, Males 18-49 went from 2.2 to 2.9 and Women 18-49 went from a 1.0 to 1.3 rating.

In the Cena-Laurinaitis segment, Male Teens went from 1.3 to 2.1, Female Teens went from 0.7 to 0.9, Males 18-49 went from 2.5 to 3.3 and Women 18-49 went from a 1.1 to 1.3 rating.

Paul Heyman’s return: Paul Heyman’s return is one of the more positive things to occur in WWE in a good while. As I have said over the years, Heyman’s TV persona is an easy one to dislike. We’ve had some classic on air disputes but none compare to some of the one’s that we have had off the air especially when we were teaming in Atlanta while working for WCW.

What makes Heyman so effective is that he doesn’t play the ‘role’ of a villain who has litigious tendencies. Plus, Heyman is a life long fan who now has the chance to essentially reinvent himself with this unexpected return to the genre. It will likely be his last return to the business if I had to make a wager.

I thought Heyman’s interaction with HHH Monday night was the highlight of the broadcast while it kicked off the show as nothing really could follow that compelling first segment of the night.

Potential Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar match: Lesnar will get what he has coming to him was a great line by The Game. It could mean many things including a possible match between HHH and Lesnar if we fans are lucky. Time will tell on that but this particular issue has my interest and, more importantly, has me thinking of all the potential ‘moments’ that the HHH/Heyman/Lesnar issue might provide.

Steve Austin’s new deal: Congrats to Steve Austin @steveaustinBSR on his new deal with CMT to star in the new reality show Redneck Island. The new reality show is to begin airing in June and Steve is taping it now somewhere in Mexico, I think. CMT seems to be a nice fit for Steve on cable. For those asking, I do not know how those outside the USA access Country Music Television now known as CMT.

Leaving WWE: “I walked away from an extremely well paying job, which is probably not the smartest thing to do, but I did it solely to come home and to help my wife raise our children, to be a part of their lives. WWE would have allowed me to work any kind of way that I wanted. I could have very easily have said, ‘Hey, I’d like to slow down over the next couple of years, do a few things here and there,’ and I think everybody would have been fine with that, but for me, I think that would have probably been harder on me. Personally, I think the job would be harder for me to do, personally, on a semi, here and there, in and out type basis.”

“It’s easier, and I think I’m better at it when I’m doing it or I’m not. So for me I felt it was better to walk away completely.”

Returning to the ring: “You have to be careful because if you leave it as an open option, you’re going to be getting calls on a regular basis. Every time somebody gets injured or every time somebody comes up with an idea, the phone is going to be ringing, and you’re going to have to deal with ‘should I or shouldn’t I?’ I didn’t want to run into that. I didn’t want to put myself through that, and I didn’t want to put the company through that.”

“I’m certainly not going to wrestle, but if you need me for something, if you’re in a bind, you can give me a buzz, and I’ll be more than happy to be there and help out any way I can.”

Being a part of WrestleMania 28 with Undertaker and Triple H: “For me, it was about three of us who have been there — for the most part — the longest of anybody and probably the last of the Mohicans, so to speak.It was three guys who had been sharing that locker-room for a long time, doing this in some form or another, whether it was me and Hunter, me and Taker, Taker and Hunter. The three of us have run the gamut of being in and out of the ring with each other and going through ups and downs, personally and professionally, and this is the last time the three of us will be in the ring together. That’s what the End of an Era was to me.”

Moving the match up would extend the time between Lesnar appearances on WWE TV this year since it’s believed they only have him for around 24 dates this year with the rest of the dates being used next year for WrestleMania season. The main reason for keeping Lesnar out until the SummerSlam match was because they had already burned through 5 dates between WrestleMania and Extreme Rules.

- On the way back from promoting WWE in Japan this past weekend, Alberto Del Rio stopped in China to take part in a press conference announcing the SmackDown brand’s return to The Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai on August 11th. WWE will be running Tokyo, Japan on August 9th and 10th. Reports coming out of China suggest that WWE is considering doing regular tours of China.
