As I have watched wrestling for the last few weeks, on thing has really grated on my nerves, the instant replay of what just happened. I know America has a short attention span, but good lord, it’s not that short! The main culprit in this has to be the WWE with Monday Night RAW. I almost had to change the channel, it’s gotten so bad.Yes, I know you want to highlight impressive moves, or Earth-shattering announcements. And given that RAW is a live television broadcast, you (the WWE) fit them in whenever you can. I however think it’s gone more than just a little over board. Go back two weeks ago to RAW when Triple H ran out to save Jeff Hardy from the beat down of Umaga and that less than talented ogre they call Snitsky.
• Triple H runs in and beats down the bad guys
• Triple H then proceeds to rip his shirt off
• The bad guys run off
• Trips and Hardy stand in the ring together
That’s all that happened. However, they showed the instant replay while Triple H is in the ring, immediately after the commercial break, later in the broad cast, and then the following week.
Sadly this from of retelling the events has carried over into TNA as well. One of the bigger down sides to TNA is their uncanny ability to copy or attempt to copy what the WWE is doing. Relatively similar theme songs for ex-WWE’ers, check. The “Moments Ago” instant replay, you better believe it.
What happened to just doing a quick rundown of what happened at either the end of the show, or just prior to the next week’s match that involves any of the participants from said event? I don’t need to see it three or four or even five times in the span of seven days. I maybe a child of video games and the internet, but I can remember things. I swear I’m not that forgetful or stupid.
*****Comments from my high school teachers will be ignored.*****
I just feel that the use of the instant replay has been so over done and over used; it’s not even relevant anymore. Compare it to someone using profanity constantly, eventually you no longer feel the sting or react the same after the barrage of its use. Sorry guys, but it’s time to back WAY off of the replays. Let the action go. I don’t need to be reminded of that drop-kick two seconds after it happened and then after the match. Once after the match or maybe even next week will suffice for me, thanks.
Quick Hits
RAW
• Y2J has returned, and never have I questioned Jericho’s sexuality until I saw that out fit. Heeeyyyyy!
• I like the Ric Flair retirement angle. It gives a little something extra to his matches. I just hope they down shove it down our throats.
Smackdown
• How lucky are we that we get two returning Canucks with blonde hair? Good luck Edge.
• Smackdown had been the better of the shows in past months, but now I just feel like something’s not right. Hmmm….. Oh yeah, maybe ECW talent holding the Smackdown tag belts. How does this whole brand separation work again?
ECW
• I’m not sure what to think of Shelton to ECW. I’m a huge fan of his, but this has to be viewed as a demotion.
• Good to see that at least one manager in the WWE can carry out the role properly. Nice work by Matt Striker!
TNA
• How funny would it have been to see Joe in that turkey costume? Oh well!
• Would somebody please tell them that a flimsy foil pan filled with cool whip does NOT count as a pie!
Well that’s all for now folks! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! And here’s to a happy and safe holiday season!
Remember, it’s just wrestling.
