The Truth Hurts

As I watched Smackdown briefly last Friday night, with their countdown of the top matches of 2007 - I strongly disagreed with one match on the list and got an idea how to help it return to previous, more entertaining form.

The Money in the Bank match at last year's Wrestlemania was nowhere near one of the top matches in my opinion. It had too many people in the match, and not enough of them able to excel in a Ladder Match environment. Last year's was easily the worst of these matches, simply because of the previously stated reasons. Randy Orton, Booker, and Kennedy do not fit into that kind of match, they just don't show the high flying and exciting qualities match in & match out to make it even better by adding a Ladder. So I came up with a slight way to make it exciting once again at Wrestlemania, but also make it exciting building up to the match itself.

We all know that they have Wrestlemania title matches planned months in advance, leaving the undercard to be filled those last few weeks. The undercard usually comprises of a few matches we'd love to see, and some that are head-scratchers as to why they were made.

So my idea to set up the Money in the Bank match is simple - Vince owns anything that has the WCW name attached to it, so use the old BattleBowl/Lethal Lottery gimmick that WCW used in the early 90s. The Lethal Lottery can pair absolutely anyone together - as we had in 1993 where Vader & Cactus Jack were bitter rivals, and also tag partners in the event. Meaning that there would be tournaments of 8 teams for each show - with possibilities of matches like MVP & Matt Hardy vs Kane and Shannon Moore. And the match needs to go back to having only 6 wrestlers - 8 was too many last year.

It needs to be the strong mid-carders that are elevated into this match, much what last year's lacked. Orton, Edge, Booker - they were all established already.

I think for this year's Ladder Match - I won't put the BattleBowl matches together, but let's see the following list of wrestlers in the match, wrestlers that could really contribute to it.

--Shelton Benjamin
--Matt Hardy
--Elijah Burke
--Umaga (he's been in the title picture before, but he would be fun in this match)
--Chris Jericho (him main eventing right away was a mistake - let him earn his way back)
--MVP

I know right now that's not the most promising list for the match's competitors - but just to get an idea. Wrestling over the last 10 years, since the internet has come so strong and we as fans always get a glimpse of things to come - give us something exciting to look forward to again. I don't always enjoy knowing what will happen at PPVs 2 months down the road. I miss excitement and surprise. Like it or hate it, this is simply one fan's idea how to bring back a little excitement. I have been a wrestling fan for 21 years, I want to keep having a reason to enjoy it, not just loyalty.
