| Here’s a question to consider as we are watching the tag team division on Raw and Smackdown this year. Where have all the good tag teams gone? I can remember in the late 80’s watching Demolition and how they dominated the tag team scene for well over two years. Whether good or bad, these guys kicked some major a** while they were on the scene. Their costumes were the most original and “frightful” at the time. When they first came on the scene the masks made you wonder who the people were that made up the team of Demolition. When the masks came off, instead normal looking faces underneath, face paint was adorned on them. More mystery and yet more questions. I know some people were saying they were a rip-off of the Legion of Doom, but the track record of the most domineering tag team of WWF (back then) can’t be wrong. Just look at their record: WWF World Tag-Team Champion w/ Smash (3/27/88 - 7/18/89) WWF World Tag-Team Champion(2) w/ Smash (10/2/89 - 12/13/89) WWF World Tag-Team Champion(3) w/ Smash & Crush (4/01/90 - 8/27/90) I admit the third go around for the championship with Crush wasn’t exactly the team they once were, but it was still more captivating then who we see right now. It’s really hard to figure out if the teams nowadays will really stay together for long or not. “Lets just throw two guys together as a tag team and see how it goes.” That seems to be exactly what the WWE is doing right now. Back in the 80’s and even 90’s besides Demolition, there was a long list of tag teams (in WWF and some coming over from the NWA or WCW to the WWF for a time) to really want to cheer for, among them being: The Hart Foundation, The Killer Bees (sure they lost a lot but they still put on a good show) , The Brain Busters w/Bobby Heenan (the best manager ever I might add), The British Bulldogs, Nasty Boys, The Steiner Brothers, The Legion of Doom, The Powers of Pain, Money, Inc., Smoking Gunns, and last but not least the Hardy Boys. (I haven’t mentioned many others because as I stated previously, many of them were just thrown together for a short time and didn’t really mean much to the tag team realm.) Alas all of these teams are no longer around. They may have given the Hardy Boys a time to be back together earlier in 2007, but they are now both singles wrestlers and the possibility of them being together again is slim to none. If the WWE is wise they will give the Heavyweight belt to Jeff Hardy, but I digress, that is for another time to get into. Who is there to cheer for in a tag team right now in either Raw or Smackdown? Hardcore Holly and Cody Rhodes? Hahahaha, I’m willing to bet they won’t last the year, mark my words. Bob Holly needs to hang up his boots cause the threat of another elbow problem is looming and Cody Rhodes could do so much better as a singles wrestler given the right storyline. The Miz and Morrison for Smackdown tag champs? Who’d they pay off to be champs? Who wants to see a “reality star” and a pretty boy (who by the way was suspended for illegal drugs in his system) as wrestling champions, not me, that’s for sure. I would have to call both teams “jebrony brew” of the WWE ring right now. Demolition would eradicate both teams if pitted against them in less then two minutes and really I think I am being generous in that time. Matter of fact Holly/Rhodes and Miz/Morrison VS. Demolition would be a laugh riot cause we all know Ax and Smash would spank both teams out of the ring and have them crying all the way to the back (kind of like a Mike Sharpe match of the past) cause of the quick work that would have been handed to them. Can we say losers? I can, LOSERS!!! There has to be something better then these guys. Vince, wake up, smell the stench that is happening to your tag teams right now. The belts are beginning to tarnish cause nothing is being done to want to care about the tag team division right now. No excitement that surrounds this venue will mean the end to the division. What happened Vince? Why aren’t you caring about this division? Oh yeah, Big show is coming, that will make up for everything.... That’s my 3 cents worth...til next time..
