It's been a while I know, but you'll all survive. I've just taken the time to let more come into play, so I'd have a column worth putting together. It'll be random shit as usual - so let's get started.
Wrestlemania is this Sunday - where are all the title matches? We have the 3 Heavyweight titles being defended, what about the others? There are 2 tag titles, US Title, IC Title, and Women's titles not being defended. What a waste.
Can we hurry up with this whole Maria in Playboy thing? I think Maria is as gorgeous as everyone else does, but I'm sick of her being the only Diva shown every week right now. Put Beth Phoenix back on TV more, let her defend the title, and let other divas get airtime. I'd rather see Mickie James wrestle than Maria and Ashley talk or argue with Santino.
I hope that whoever wins the ECW Title Battle Royal also beats Chavo for the ECW Title. What, in the first place, possessed them to give the title to that worthless turd? Shamefully he's still around because of his last name only - much like why Vickie is still on Smackdown. My personal hope for the winner in this is Mark Henry, by the way.
I personally think Jeff Hardy's suspension and removal from the Money in the Bank match killed it. I said that last year bumping it up to 8 people was too much, and this year - with the exception of really Jericho, Shelton, and maybe CM punk, this year's group doesn't seem to fit for the type of match all that well.
I won't mention anything other than this about Big Show/Floyd Mayweather, for saving my own frustration with how ridiculous this match is. Has any other wrestler been in more bullshit Mania matches than Show? I thought it was bad enough a few years ago with Aki Bono in the Sumo match. The signing of this match really makes me question why they even brought Show back?
A quick movie review - I picked up the movie Wrestlemaniac last week. That movie is hilarious. It's a cheesy horror flick with Leyla Milani and Rey Misterio Sr. about an amateur porn crew that hears of an old haunted ghost town. Of course, once they learn the tale of the town, they decide to film there. The catch is the town is haunted by an old luchador named El Mascarado that kills people that visit the town. he treats all murders as a Mexican mask vs mask match - so he kills people by ripping their faces off. Sounds really bad, but if you can look at it as purely entertainment, it's awesome. Decent action and gore, Leyla and the other 2 women in the movie look great. The only bad part is the guy that plays the director/pornstar is annoying, but spoiler alert - he dies first. Fun movie, with a good horror/comedy/wrestling twist to it.
I hope TNA has a job waiting for Robbie McAllister after showing and mentioning him on Impact last night. I can understand the surprise of a WWF wrestler appearing at their TV Show, but showing his name and him on screen for a good 30 seconds is just begging to get him canned.
TNA also needs to take their Knockout title off Awesome Kong. It's fun having the "big man type champ" but loses its appeal when they are shown to be truly unbeatable. Last night, ODB should have easily won that match. She controlled the majority of the match, then it ends with a 4 hit combo from Kong? Waste of a match in the end. they have a lot of female talent in TNA, I wish they use more of it.
My final thing for this edition is not a congratulations to Ric Flair for the Hall of Fame, but a thank you for all the great matches and moments he has given to wrestling fans for the past 36 years. I've seen some of Ric's truly greatest matches, from Steamboat to the Funks to Dusty Rhodes - Ric Flair has always made other wrestlers look better. Two of my favorites come from the early and mid 1990's respectively. First is from the Clash of the Champions in January 1991, about 2 weeks after winning the world title back from Sting he had a match against Scott Steiner that was just incredible. Of course back then, I thought Scotty had a chance of winning that match with every suplex. The other is from mid 1994, in a Marquis of Queensbury Cup series he had with Lord Steven Regal. That was pure wrestling in every match, it also had punches outlawed during the series. I believe it was a 5 match series, and Ric won the Cup with a backslide in the final match. Thank you, Ric. I've been honored to watch your accomplishments and a tremendous career unravel in front of me. There will never be another like Ric Flair.
