Amazing absolutely amazing!! Just when I was going to give up on the WWE, they give us this. The WWE went the extra mile to put on a hell of a show on Sunday. I have to say that WrestleMania 24 turned out to be one of the reasons I watch pro wrestling. From top to bottom the action was well worth the time to see this show. I had my doubts about the matches and boy was I wrong about each and every one. They pulled out all the stops on this and made the show one for the history books. I don’t know if there was a dry eye in the house when Flair went to the back..so lets get to it...Kane won the 24-man ECW Battle Royal, tossing out Mark Henry to get his chance at the ECW Championship.
Matt Hardy returned to the WWE costing MVP the Money In the Bank match. CM Punk got the victory, I didn’t see that coming at all. Maybe they will build up Punk as a contender that is worth our time to want to watch.
JBL defeated Finlay in a wild match that had lots of trash can lids upon heads and a Hornswoggle return, if only in a failed attempt to save Finlay that is.
Batista beat Umaga with a horrible looking Batista Bomb, but the crowd was more behind Umaga then Batista. I wonder if this feud will continue...
In a pretty decent match, Mayweather beat the Big Show with some brass knuckles to Big Show’s face. They really did pull one out of the hat here.
In what can be construed as a record for a match, Kane beat Chavo for the ECW title, he snuck through the crowd and choke slammed Guerrero, winning in about 5 seconds. It’s about time they put a belt around Kane’s waist.
In the match of the night and possibly the year, Shawn Michaels defeated the Nature Boy Ric Flair with a super kick--ending his career.
Thanks to Santino, Beth Phoenix and Melina beat Maria and Ashley. Not much to really say about this match except it was what it was.
Randy Orton pinned John Cena after kicking Triple H in the face, who coincidentally just pedigreed Cena.
In the final match of the night, Edge and Undertaker battled for a good 20 minutes with Edge tapping out to the triangle choke hold. Taker wins the belt and hopefully a long title reign for him to come...
Now that WM 24 is over and done with, it's with high hopes and much anticipation that they will be able to move forward with some much needed decent storylines. And from what I saw on Raw they are beginning to head in that direction. It almost seems as if they took a little bit of advice from what I wrote in my many articles. (but maybe it is just a coincidence) The tag team picture started to show some promise with two matches all within a half an hour of one another. Much to my surprise and to the surprise of many, Cryme Tyme returned to do battle with Cade and Murdoch and scooped up the win. Then it was Holly and Rhodes going against Kendrick and London in a non-title match which saw Kendrick roll up Rhodes for a win, the match was actually quite good. Maybe just maybe Vince is heeding the call of the tag team division once again, we can only hope this will become a reality.
A match that might come to fruition from the confrontation on Raw is Khali vs. Big Show in the very near future. Two of the biggest athletes in the federation could go head to head in a match that would be interesting to say the least. Now if Khali could just learn to wrestle without editing the match, now that would be something.
Matt Hardy got his match against Orton on Raw as well, but he lost of course. Now I would imagine he will go back to Smackdown to continue his feud with MVP and maybe just maybe get the United States Championship around his waist after a few more matches to keep the suspense up that is. By the way, what’s up with JBL wanting to go against Orton for the title? Is this what we have to look forward to? I can see JBL in a program with Orton, it’s something different to say the least, but it begs a question, will JBL stay heel or will he become a face in the feud? Hmmm...
Thinking about Kane and his win last night which means he is now the ECW champion puts a smile on the face doesn’t it? It’s about time the guy gets a title, will it be a good run? I think Glen could keep this for sometime to come-he deserves it seeing as how his last title run only lasted one day.
Santino thought he would have a match against Maria at Raw, but instead all the divas came out and beat on him pretty good didn’t they? Having Santino in the picture with the women will only help the division cause he is a good athlete and not so bad of a performer, cause lets face it, the women need all the help they can get in order to keep things interesting.
The future looks bright for the WWE as I see it and I can only hope that they will stay on this roll and give the fans all that they deserve and want. The pros outweighed the cons for WM 24 and Raw, pro wrestling might just be back and worth watching once again.....
Oh yes Ric Flair, to close out the evening on
Raw, the excellent tribute to Ric Flair was a sight to behold, words cannot expression the admiration all the athletes have for this man. It was a very touching scene at the Hall of Fame, WM 24, and especially Raw, if there was a dry eye in the house, I would have been very surprised. It was fantastic to see he finally got all the props he deserved. After 36 years of blood, sweat, and tears his sportsmanship and entertaining in the ring will be remembered as the best ever and also for the famous lines, “To be the man, you have to beat the man.” WOOOOOOOO!!
That’s my 3 cents worth, til next time...
