There's not a whole lot for major news in the wrestling business that we haven't heard before. On Raw they were promoting the One Night Stand pay per view for Sunday. As you rightly know, all of the matches are “gimmick” matches including: Triple H going against Orton (for the umpteenth time) in a last man standing match-now don’t be too surprised if Orton loses this thing because he had requested for some time off. And I highly doubt HHH wants to lose the title so soon after winning it.
Shawn Michaels will face Batista in a stretcher match. Maybe Shawn will turn heel here and show that he is a true bad guy in the match. You have to believe it will happen only because it has been teased so much about a heel turn on many Raw episodes.
John Cena will battle John "Bradshaw" Layfield in a First Blood match. Again, these guys have battled to a bloody match before with Cena coming out crimson red, so maybe JBL will show a bit of the red this time around.
Jeff Hardy and Umaga will face-off in a Falls Count Anywhere match. I’m not too keen on this match only because we have seen these two wrestle each other so many times before. Jeff Hardy will squeak out the win and then Umaga will probably go to Smackdown or ECW in the trade in a month.
CM Punk, John Morrison, Tommy Dreamer, Chavo Guerrero and The Big Show will battle in a Five-Way Singapore Cane match, with the winner getting an ECW Championship match at the Night of Champions 2008. I think you can wager a guess as to who will win this one, can we say Big Show?
Edge and The Undertaker will also battle for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match, but if Undertaker loses he has to leave the WWE. I’ve heard that McMahon likes having Edge as champ and not the Undertaker anymore, so the money to the winner goes to Edge. I’m sure it will be a good match only because Edge has been in so many of these matches and the Undertaker could make wrestling a pillow look good with his in ring ability.
Melina will battle Beth Phoenix in an "I Quit" match. Why it’s not Mickie James the champ going against Beth Phoenix is beyond me. In reality I could careless about the match.
Now onto other items of interest, the one million dollar giveaway on Raw. I don’t know about you, but I have come to the realization that it will be near to impossible to win this amount and it’s all for the ratings. Haven’t they tried this money giveaway before and the person who tried it didn’t even come close to the prize because winning it was so complicated? It would be great if this will really come to light and someone can actually win this amount. It's looking as if McMahon is becoming very desperate for his ratings.
Apparently there will be a promotion wide draft in the next month. It's supposed to cover all three brands and all the superstars. We shall see. They have said this before and only a handful of stars went to the different brands while the mainstays held their own on the “A” brand which is Raw. You can do all the moving that you want, but if the storylines aren’t there to peak the interest of the viewer, it won’t make a lick of difference who goes where.
I saw the video of the Warrior getting in shape for his big return in June against of all people Orlando Jordan in Barcelona, Spain. For a guy that has been out of the wrestling ring for so long and not in the lime-light for such things, he is in phenomenal shape. I have to admit he puts 110% into his workouts and with the slobber and the sweat flying, he puts guys half his age to shame so for a guy that is almost 50, he’s doing great. Now we’ll have to see if he can pull of a decent wresting match to equal his physique. If he does, don’t be too surprised if he shows up in a federation again. If he stinks up the joint, he should give it up never to be seen in the ring ever again. I have high hopes in a Warrior return, but I won’t count my chickens before they’re hatched.
Aside from those few tidbits in wrestling, I can’t really say the past week has sparked a big interest for me. I didn’t even watch Raw this week because I knew they would just be having throw away matches going into the pay per view for One Night Stand. Maybe it will be a good ppv, maybe it will garner some big numbers, yeah and maybe they will give the heavyweight title to Hornswoggle...
That’s my 3 cents worth, til next time...
