The Backlash PPV has come and gone. Now a few thoughts on each match that took place:

HHH/Batista/Shane Mac vs. Orton/Rhodes/Dibiase (stipulations for match are if HHH’s team wins he retains title, if Orton’s team wins he gets the WWE title): Let me state for the record, this was a stupid stipulation for the match and to me an idiotic way to go. They only did this so the federation didn’t have to come up with separate matches for these wrestlers. Putting them all into one match meant less thinking on the writers parts. So here’s what happened, even though I didn’t think it would be a good match, I was wrong, for the most part. Dibiase showed that he is his father’s son, Rhodes is coming into his own and Shane O is coming along as well. Orton, HHH, and Batista did what they do which is put on a pretty good show. I may not like what they had these guys do, but they did entertain us fans. Towards the end, HHH was going to pedigree Orton, but Batista was in the ring with a chair and HHH and he argue. Which sets up Orton RKO’ing HHH. Some goofball rang the bell on the false finish because it was a two count, so Orton punts HHH in the head and pins him. Orton is finally the new WWE Champion. The announcers are selling the punt to the head and HHH gets a neck brace put on as well as getting strapped into a stretcher…. Now this summer it will be Orton against…?

Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy (I Quit match): I have always liked these two (even if I never liked the idea of this brother vs. brother match) their match was filled with highs and lows and each man worked hard to entertain the crowd. They worked off each other, which in turn made it a pretty good match (they could have done better) except for the ending. Jeff is on a ladder ready to pounce on Matt and while Jeff is on the ladder, Matt was saying they can be the Hardy Boys again and ma in heaven wouldn’t like this and dad at home sick wouldn’t like this either. But before Jeff can jump, Matt yells I quit. The crowd hates the ending. But after the match is done, Jeff jumps and lands on top of Matt anyways. I hope this is the end of this so called feud, I never believed it to begin with. Lets move on with something for these two please!!

John Cena vs. Edge (Last Man Standing match): To cut to the finish, Cena is chokeslammed off the stage by Big Show and so Edge wins the match. So the title now goes to Smackdown, problem solved with having two titles on one show. It was a good last man standing match, I have to believe Big Show and Cena for the summer.

Jack Swagger vs. Christian (ECW Championship match): I’m hoping this isn’t the only title that Christian was promised upon his return to the federation. Anyways, with the crowd heavily behind Christian he pinned Swagger “cleanly” after the Kill Switch (and some help from an exposed turnbuckle). I’m glad that Christian won the match, at least he’s a champ now. To me the ECW Championship just doesn’t mean as much as it did back in the day, but it is what it is. Good match though, can’t complain about it, I’m just glad Christian has a championship now.

CM Punk vs. Kane (to me a throw-away match at best): Not the best I’ve seen between these two that’s for sure. Kane wins after CM went to the well one too many times with high kicks to Kane. Kane chokeslams Punk for the win. As I said, a throw-away match. At least they let Kane win on his birthday-Happy 42nd!!

Chris Jericho vs. Rick Steamboat: Steamboat hasn’t lost a step, even at 56 he can outwrestle most wrestlers half his age. He was pretty good in the match doing cross body blocks and using high flying moves, but unfortunately with the Walls of Jericho locked in, Steamboat taps out. I’m sure this will be the end of Steamboat in the ring, at least against Jericho anyway. I thought it was a pretty decent match.

Santina on Khali Cam (I know it wasn’t a match): Ugh, the only reason they have Khali on is because he is huge in India. Okay here is what happened during this comedy sketch: Santina comes out and says someone has been courting her, so she can't kiss Khali. Santina says it's good ole JR. Santina says JR calls her his little slabberknocker. Khali says he understands why Santina can't kiss him. But he says they'll need to prove it by Santina kissing JR. Santina starts to faint and then Beth Phoenix comes out. She says this is enough. She demands a rematch for the title of Miss WrestleMania against Santina. Khali says how dare she interupt this beautiful, tender moment between two people in love. Beth says Santina is really Santino Marella. She then starts insulting Khali and his native India. Khali hears enough from Beth and "palms" her on top of her head. He then pushes her down to the ground. The bell rings and Santina pins Beth-I guess there was a match after all, if that’s what you want to call it. Khali backs Santina in a corner. Santina tries running out of the ring and does, but not before Khali rips Santina’s top off. Santina(o) runs off to the back. Comedy all the way….or what they call comedy.

There was a dark match before the PPV with Kofi Kingston beating Dolph Ziggler. So much for Kofi, I think his time is up for making any kind of an impact in this federation. Going from Intercontinental Champ to this, oh well, such as life.

Not a bad PPV, I actually thought it was better then WM 25. It won’t make me watch Raw tomorrow night though. Too many shows are having their season finales, so my VCR will get a workout. One last thing, why didn’t they make a program up for Rey Mysterio, he is the Intercontinental Champion isn’t he? Weird…I thought they were going to let him have more time now that he’s a champion. Disappointing….

Now onto TNA and the rundown of the show:

Jeff Jarrett came out to the ring with the TNA World Title. Then Mick Foley comes out and Jarrett gives him the title. It’s announced that a Four Way Ultimate Sacrifice match at the Sacrifice PPV with Foley defending the title is set. The other wrestlers have to sacrifice something important to them. Foley then asks Jarrett exactly
who’s in charge around here? Then he tells Jarrett he has to go against Scott Steiner later in the night.

Team 3D addresses the current situation of tag team wrestling in TNA and they decide to start a Team 3D Invitational tournament. The winner will receive a check for $100,000, a trophy and a shot against them for the TNA World Tag team titles. Gives it an interesting twist to things to help the tag team division along I suppose.

A Quarter Final Match in the Team 3D Invitational takes place with Beer Money defeating Lethal Consequences. I’m just happy to see a tag team match. I have missed them soooo much in the other federation. So my opinion on the quality won’t be sounded at this time.

Up next is Angle saying Team Jarrett didn't beat them, they beat themselves. Steiner takes the blame for the loss saying that it’s his fault for trusting Jeff Jarrett and 20 years of friendship have gone down the drain.

Jeff Jarrett is next. He says he doesn't give a damn about Steiner, and pretty much says to screw everyone including Steiner, MEM, and Mick Foley, ….Eric Young then comes up to him and asks what he has to do to get noticed. He wants to know when it’s his turn. Jeff says that Jethro Holiday (Trevor Murdoch, yes good old boy Murdoch, is in TNA) doesn't have a tag partner and to go find him.

There’s a Ladder Match for a future Knockouts Title Match: SoJo Bolt defeated Taylor Wilde. Ten times better then any women’s match in the WWE.

A Beautiful People celebration is next, who really cares, I didn’t… until Awesome Kong makes her way to the ring, one of the beautiful people receives an Awesome Bomb. Awesome Kong is just that, Awesome. The WWE needs someone like her, but they won’t because it’s all about looks to them, not skill. The first part of this was what lagged and I could have gotten by without it, ugh….

AJ Styles defeats Kevin Nash by disqualification due to interference by Booker T. AJ is amazing in the ring, I don’t care what anyone says. Is this the start of a quarrel between MEM, and a restructuring of the group down the line?

Another Quarterfinal match in team 3D tourney: Eric Young & Jethro Holiday defeat No Limit. Not a bad match, but as I have said before, it’s a tag team match that I have been missing in wrestling, so it’s better then nothing.

Jeff Jarrett defeats Scott Steiner. After the match, Kurt Angle comes down and gives Jarrett an Olympic slam and puts him in an “angle” lock while Steiner puts him in a Steiner recliner. Mick leaves the commentary table to help Jarrett and fights them off with a steel chair. Foley then attacks Jarrett with the chair and leaves him in the middle of the ring while Angle & Steiner stand at ringside. Daniels and AJ Styles ran down to help Jarrett who gets on the microphone and says he knew 6 months ago that Foley was a maniac and the next time he sees him he's gonna stick a pink slip up his you know what.

The lights then go out and Bobby Lashley's music hits and he appears at the top of the ramp. Angle and Steiner applaud at Lashley's appearance. He then disappears into the dark, while Daniels, Styles and Jarrett remain in the ring. I was never too excited about Bobby when he was in the WWE, but maybe with his time away he has refined his mic skills and all around ring techniques. I guess this means he is in TNA, but we won’t know whose side he’s on until later I suppose. That’s fine with me, they need a reason for us fans to watch TNA in the coming weeks (only if you’re interested in the fact that they have Bobby Lashley in the federation now). I won’t always be writing what happened on every TNA show, but for now it gives the person that isn’t watching TNA an idea of what is going on in this federation and gives them a chance to check them out if they want to.

I’m hoping with the warm months ahead we get something decent out of both the WWE and TNA (is that too much to ask anymore?) Most people are outside and not focused on their televisions at this time, hence the reason most networks go into reruns of their shows. So far this year I haven’t been too enthused about spending my free time watching pro wrestling as a whole. I decided to comment on TNA because we know WWE isn’t the only game in town. (I have said this in previous columns) With new/old wrestlers coming into the fold of the TNA it might improve their ratings and storylines as time goes on, I understand they have plans made out till the end of the summer for where their stories are going. Now that’s planning. I highly doubt the WWE even knows what they will be doing on their next Smackdown show.

That’s my 3 cents worth, til next time….
