 Does Anyone Really Care????

So let me ask…do you care at all?

In the last “Winter’s Storm” column, Trev asked where all the columnists have gone. Good question, and while I’m hardly the most reliable writer on these boards, I think I have the answer to Trev’s question.

There is simply nothing happening in the WWE worth caring (or writing) about right now.

Sure, I still watch the shows, bought “The Bash” (but doubt I will order the “Night of Champions” PPV), but it feels more like a habit at this point. I did a write up on The Bash, but posted it on the forum page here (trying to do my part to kick-start that growing part TWNP). WWE is hardly “must see TV”. Let me put it to you this way, I can guarantee that at least until SummerSlam and probably for a few months beyon, either John Cena, Randy Orton or Triple H will somehow be involved in every title match on both RAW and each PPV. I’ve seen this combo multiple times over the past year. I’m sick of it. I really don’t care about Orton’s title run, I don’t care if Triple H regains the title in hopes of surpassing Ric Flair’s number of title reigns, and I am REALLY tired of Cena’s stale shtick. Let me guess Legacy will somehow interfere with a match or two on next week’s RAW. Been there, done that.

Finally some new faces are showing up on RAW….only to get squashed. The Miz actually showed some signs of reaching beyond mid-card hell…well that didn’t last long. As a matter of fact he wasn’t even on last night’s show? Dolph Ziggler another new player who can take some outrageous bumps, the dude is a selling machine when it comes to taking bumps…unfortunately, that is about all he is given the opportunity to do, as he loses yet another match. Evan Bourne, the new high flying little guy is....destined for the same scrap heap as Jamie Noble, Billy Kidman & Kofi Kingston I guess. I hope he enjoys his time playing around the mid-card level because even if he gets the crowd reaction, he isn’t going anywhere. He's too small in Vince's eyes to be a true champion.

We haven’t even had any good Santino comedy moments in a couple weeks? Those are like a no-brainer…I guess Santina had the backstage pull?

Why even bother with ECW or Smackdown. Basically anyone worth investing time in has been “traded” to RAW. The rosters of the “B” shows have been decimated. And the few folks who are left just aren’t interesting. Do I really care if Rey Mysterio loses his mask? No, not really. That happened a decade ago in WCW and it wasn’t really worth noting then, why should I care about it now? CM Punk as champ was a nice novelty last year, now he’s feuding with a guy whose contract is set to expire in a matter of weeks. Even my 93 year old grandfather sees how that feud will end.

Now with Edge hurt, he can join Batista, HBK, Undertaker and Matt Hardy as another missing superstar. Stars out due to injury are nothing new in the WWE. But what I don’t understand, is why doesn’t Vince & Co. prepare for this eventuality? He has a roster full of young guys ready to step up, you would think with an Undertaker or an HBK on the shelf, it would be the perfect time to elevate a guy like Cody Rhodes to the next level. Plug in the roster holes with new talent, let them try and run with the ball, if the stumble…oh well, they had a shot, nothing lost, and nothing gained. Instead we get Mark Henry elevated as a major player on RAW????!! Mark Henry? Really? This dude was stale when he fathered a hand with Mae Young! Big Show, Khali & Kane seem to be on the edge of feuds as well. What? The best the WWE can do is plugging Kane into a feud with Khali? Who is that going to help? Better yet, who wants to see that?

Trev mentioned the woeful state of the Tag Team division. No kidding. There is no division. With the break-up of the Colons we are left with basically one tag team, Legacy..and they don’t even hold the titles. The Tag Team champs are a couple of solo wrestlers who just happened to be thrown together. Yeah, that makes sense. Just send the Tag Titles the same way of the TV Title, The European Title and The Hardcore Title….retire the once proud title before they are dragged through any more crap, and let us keep our fond memories of the truly great tag teams of the past.

Wrestling is in a bad way right now. WWE is seeing smaller returns in both ratings and PPV buys. And while the economy is a convenient fall-guy for some of that, the piss-poor, repetitive programming sure doesn’t help. Hopefully Vince & Co. can turn the ship around. I used to have faith that they would. Now…not so much.

So, I’ll still be writing now and again. But I don’t see a point in just filibustering week in and week out when the latest version of Triple H vs. Orton goes down. Otherwise my columns would become as repetitive as WWE television.
