Game of the Moment: Wrestlemania X8 only on the Nintendo GameCube. Wrestlers: The roster consisting of 42 of the WWE's superstars including some of the former WcW stars. Play as The Rock, Booker T, The Hurricane, Ric Flair, nWo, and many more. The models of the wrestlers a sometimes a little odd, but generally look good in some aspects not to brag about. Although with the trademark moves and personalities come the entrance and the music presentation. It could be considered a little bit better than SMACKdown! *JBI at the time* its not ahead by much. Some of the WcW stars do not have their music in WMX8, even though it doesn't bother the play of the Gameplay, it hurts it over presentation though. There are more multiplayer features that you could imagine in a game. The Create-a-Superstar option is average. It doesn't have nearly as many options as SMACKdown! series, it's a good start, considering the game is in it's rookie year and it leaves plenty of room for the sequel to X8 to build off it. Season/ Gameplay *Matches*: The game has 3 main game modes including Exhibition, Path of Champion, and Battle for the Belts. The Career mode kind of leaves you hanging for more, but what is present are six belts you can go on a quest after in the single-player mode called Path of a Champion. The real goal of this mode is to show that you got the belt, as well as to unlock the secret characters *6 about*. Where Wrestlemania X8 shines through is in match types: Hardcore, Cage, Hell in A. Cell, Ladder, Table, TLC, and Ironman. Namely, Cage and Hell in a Cell are very entertaining. Hell in a Cell is especially great The cell extends around the entire ring, leaving a gap between the mat and the outer border. When you start experimenting with weapons problems with collision detection begin. The weapons like garbage cans and metal sheets see real-time damage, bending under the pressure of smacking against another's forehead. It's a nice effect, and eventually the weapons disappear. However weapons that stay around, ladders for instance, begin to behave very weird Your wrestler may begin to shake or, more likely, the ladder will explode outward, even falling out of the ring even though you barely touched it. The Sound: This summary will be short and get the point across. The sounds mostly come from the entrance which is great, aside from some licensing problems. Just the music sounds oddly and no sounds from wrestlers whatsoever. My Review: It's certainly the best wrestler available for GameCube, but there are little touches that you may miss. X8 is more a victim of bad design than it is huge flaws. It has some very cool ideas with the custom belts and the stellar Hell in a Cell, but the engine really needed to go the extra mile and become a better version of the old Aki engine for No Mercy at least from my point. If you're not a hardcore wrestling fan or are looking for a single-player game, this isn't for you. Overall the multiplayer features are good, and the questing for the belts is really only useful for unlocking the secret wrestler once its over get all you friends for some fun.
