XPW Monday Nightmare TV Episode #2 from 9/9/02 on WGTW Channel 48 out of Burlington/Philadelphia .....
XPW Monday Nightmare's opening this week featured a bunch of highlights from Hostile Takeover mixed in with their previous opening. Not sure what the name of the song they use in their opening is, but it is pretty cool and definitely good for a wrestling show.
Segment #1- A video montage was done to "Who Made Who" to show the history of the Terry Funk/Shane Douglas feud in XPW. (same as Segment #7 last week)
Kris Kloss welcomes everyone to XPW Monday Nightmare and said "Who Made Who" was the question everyone was asking leading up to Hostile Takeover, and that question was answered that night in very questionable and shady fashion. He mentions how their internet reporting said the match was stopped due to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission but that wasn't the case and they found out it was stopped for reasons beyond that. Later they will talk to John Finnegan to find out why the match was really stopped. Kloss also mentions that Shane Douglas and Lizzy Borden purchased Viking Hall and XPW returns to the XPW Arena on 10/5.
Segment #2- Highlights from all the matches of the night were shown.
Psicosis/Super Crazy, Sandman/Pogo, Mexico's Most Wanted/Black Panthers, Juventud/Chetti, Guido/Luke/Grimes, Kaos/Hamrick, Douglas/Funk .... In the Douglas/Funk highlight you could see that it was a bottle and not a piece of wood that did the damage to Funk's arm. After all the highlights were shown, they mentioned that the most shocking part of the show was when Shane announced that as of 9/1/02, he and Lizzy were the new owners of Viking Hall! (same as Segment #8 from last week. Kris Kloss said this segment was to catch people up who didn't see last week's episode)
Segment #3- (From Hostile Takeover 8/31/02)- Shane Douglas (with Lizzy Borden) open the show by cutting a promo in the ring. Shane said there is talk about who really did make ECW ... was it Shane or Terry. He said he will prvoe he is the man who made ECW and tonight he was going to make XPW history and put XPW on the map as a player. Terry Funk interrupted Shane's promo and said he thinks Shane was the demise of ECW and ran off and left it for WCW. He said he thinks Shane took WCW and flushed it down the toilet.
He said he thinks Shane took NWA and spit on their belt and flushed THEM down the tube, and now he thinks he is going to make XPW?? He said Shane doesn't have the balls or brains to make XPW, and after tonight it will be the F'NXPW, the Funkin' XPW and if Shane had any balls and brains, he could show him now and have the main event first up so everyone could go home early! The crowd started chanting "Terry! Terry!" as Funk ripped into Shane. Shane told Terry he has brains and told him he respects him as a man, and he isn't looking for a fight. He said he is looking for a wrestling match later on. Shane faked leaving the ring and attacked Funk when he turned his back, working on the back of the knee. Shane had to be escorted to the back while security attended to Funk.
Segment #4- (From Hostile Takeover 8/31/02)- Super Crazy vs. Psicosis.
The crowd was very into this match and loved Crazy. There was a lot of good lucha action in this match, which was Crazy's debut for the company. The crowd chanted "ECW" when Crazy would execute a highspot. Crazy would look at the crowd like they were crazy, since this is XPW! It is mentioned how Psicosis needs this match since he is coming off 3 important losses in a row in XPW. Psicosis wins with a leg drop off the top rope!
Segment #5- XPW Official John Finnegan is interviewed via telephone about the Shane Douglas vs. Terry Funk match from Hostile Takeover. Kris Kloss asks why Finnegan called for the bell despite the fact that Funk kicked out at two after a piledriver. Finnegan said that Funk hit Shane with a glass bottle and backed away then yelled that he was cut bad. He said when they got back to the ring he saw the gash on Funk's arm and could see his muscle hanging from his arm but Funk refused to give up. Finnegan said that after kicking out of the piledriver, Funk said "stop it ref, stop the match!".
Kris Kloss seemed surprised that Funk asked to have the match stopped.
Finnegan said that Funk was yelling for him to stop it. Kloss says it is "surreal" that Funk actually submitted.
Segment #6- The end of the Shane Douglas vs. Terry Funk match from Hostile Takeover was shown, starting from the point outside of the building where Funk cut Shane with the glass bottle. There was no commentary on this footage as it was unedited from the time Funk cut Shane until the end of the match where Finnegan called for the bell. You CAN hear Funk yelling "yes! yes!" when Finnegan asks him if he wants to give it up.
NOTES:
One thing that stood out to me is how great on the mic Shane Douglas is.
With all due respect to Steve Corino, Shane may be the most entertaining man on the mic. I have always known this, but after seeing Justice Pain on CZW Fake You TV basically call out Shane Douglas while chewing gum and repeatedly ending every sentence with "okay?", it just drove the point home on how much good mic work can make someone seem like the real deal (Shane Douglas) while poor mic work makes someone look second rate (Justice Pain).
If you are going to let someone talk on the mic to try and get them over or give them more camera time, make sure they do it right or it can backfire.
Justice Pain represents CZW and if he looks bad, so does the company.
Does anyone know if Altar Boy Luke is the wrestler formerly known as Lil' Dic Grimes? I know he was trained by Vic Grimes and has a similar look (albeit much smaller and thinner) to Grimes.
Also, since XPW is new to the Philly area, if anyone has a listing of all previous XPW TV shows and XPW events, it would be greatly appreciated if you could send it my way. The XPW website doesn't really have a definitive listing of either.
There will be an upcoming change again in the WGTW wrestling programming schedule.
Starting Wednesday 9/25/02 at midnight, GLOOW will return and take over the slot held by NWA Wildside. NWA Wildside will move to Friday nights at 1am.
So when this change occurs, the indy wrestling schedule for WGTW will be XPW on Monday at midnight, Ring of Honor on Tuesday at midnight, GLOOW on Wednesday at midnight, CZW on Thursday at midnight, WXW on Friday at midnight, and NWA Wildside on Friday at 1am.
