"WWE Sunday Night Heat Report February 22, 2004 Report by: Mike Metzger
The show kicks off with the usual Sunday Night Heat opening video.
Match 1: Rico w/ Miss Jackie vs. Test Prior History: None that I can think of, but Test does seem to have a problem with the WWE Divas as of late. Description: Miss Jackie is wearing an all hearts outfit, just one week too late. Funny opening sequence, as Rico jumps in the arms of Test and gives him a big ol' kiss. Rico then steals a page from Rene Dupree and starts prancing around the ring. Test goes for a hard clothesline, misses, and Rico goes for the dreaded "ass spank" on Test. This royally pisses Test off to the point where he finally gets the hard clothesline and goes on the offensive. Test hammers away in the corner, and then connects on another clothesline after an Irish whip. Miss Jackie pounds on the mat for inspiration, and that dastardly Test stomps on her hand! What a prick. Well, with my women problems as of late, I can't really blame the guy. Anyway, Test continues to dominate, until Rico dodges a running knee. Rico hits a chinbuster, and goes for the comeback. Rico gets a big running clothesline, a standing dropkick, then rides Test like a pony. Rico hits a brief martial arts sequence, and gets a nearfall. Test comes back, however, with a big chokeslam and a nearfall of his own. Jackie's on the apron, but Test dodges the distraction, and Rico almost runs into Jackie. Test then goes for the big boot and misses. Jackie then shows off the goods to Test, temporarily distracting him, allowing Rico to roll him up for the pinfall. Winner: Rico by pinfall. Length: 3:05 Purpose: To further the who Jackie/Stacey vs. Torrie/Sable storyline, to continue to push Test as a woman-hater, and yes, the continued burial of Test.
RAW Recap: Booker T and RVD capture the tag team titles, with some assistance from Mick Foley. And later on, Orton responds by calling Foley out to the ring. Foley answers, a brawl ensues, and Foley dominates until Evolution makes the run-in. Now, why didn't the Rock run in to make the save?
Match 2: Rene Dupree w/ Rob Conway vs. Val Venis w/ Lance Storm History: None that I know of, but I smell a Heat tag team feud coming on. Description: Dupree's sporting the banana yellow tights. Basic lock-up sequence to start. Val gets control early. Dupree comes back with a fist, but ducks low and gets kicked in the face. Venis is cut-off by some outside interference from Conway, however, enabling Dupree to take control. Snapmare, neckbreaker, and taunting by Dupree. Dupree maintains control, and keeps taunting after every movie. He even does his little dance, but that becomes his ultimate mistake, as he then misses a move, giving Venis the opportunity to hit a full-nelson into a chokeslam. Venis takes control from here. Conway jumps on the apron, and Venis goes for a punch and misses. He ignores the interference, and goes up top. Conway tries to run interference with the flag, but Storm prevents it, enabling Val to go for the "Money Shot." He takes too much time, however, and Dupree gets the knees up. Dupree then hits a "Death Valley Driver" and gets the pin Winner: Rene Dupree by pinfall. Length: 3:26 Purpose: To set up the tag team feud of the decade -- Venis/Storm vs. La Resistance!
WWE Sting of the Night: Jericho plays the role of "sucker" and gets his ass kicked by Kane in order to save Trish.
RAW Recap: Jericho tells Christian he's going to fight Kane despite the knee injury from Kane. And Jericho also wants feedback from Christian, because he's gonna profess his love to Trish and give her a rose. Christian doesn't think it's a good idea, yeah, yeah, yeah, we know what's coming there. We then go to the match, where Kane dominates and further injures Jericho's knee. And after he disposes of Jericho, Kane gives us the added bonus of saying that the Undertaker is dead, dead, dead. This doesn't seem to be the case, as the purple light and "The Ring"-like Undertaker video package pop on the titan tron. Oh yeah, then it rains on Kane inside the arena. Since when did they hire Russo back?
WWE Rewind: This week it's a promo from the Monday Night War DVD, with Bischoff calling out McMahon from 1998.
RAW Recap: Austin tries to convince Bischoff to kick McMahon's ass. Bischoff seems confident, because he's got the karate thing going on. Vince is standing right behind him, of course, and tells Bischoff that Vince is going to make a blockbuster announcement on RAW the next week, and he's gonna do it in his wrestling gear so he can call Bischoff out afterwards.
Match 3: Hurricane vs. Jon Heidenreich History: Again, none that I know of. Description: Heidenreich immediately attacks Hurricane with some fists in the corner, and hits a power move. He gets a nearfall, but Hurricane tries to fight back. Our favorite superhero eventually gets some offense in, but Heidenreich seems to keep overpowering. He makes a mistake however, as he spears towards Hurricane, who ducks just in the nick of time. Hurricane then hits a somersault plancha on the outside, and continues his assault on Heidenreich. He gets him back in the ring and goes for punches in the corner. Heidy tries to power out, but Hurricane rakes the eyes. Hurricane goes to the top, but gets caught by Heidy, who gorilla-presses and guillotines our hero onto the top rope. Heidenreich then hits that crazy rock-bottom into a sidewalk slam that Rosey always does, and gets the pin. Winner: Jon Heidenreich by pinfall. Length: 1:43 Purpose: To put over Heidenreich, and possibly start a feud with Rosey? My God, us wrestling fans can only pray for that match-up.
WrestleMania Recall: The Gimmick Battle Royal from X-7. The Iron Sheik proves that his title win in '83 wasn't just a fluke transition switch, and wins it all. Haha, but no one cares, and he is never heard of again. (Unless you're a fan of Juggalo Championshit Wrestling, but that's a whole other story.)
No Way Out Recap: We see the Lesnar-Goldberg confrontation, followed by Goldberg's interference in Lesnar's championship match later on, in which he cost Lesnar the belt to Eddie Guerrero. Odelay!
Match 4: Matt Hardy, Mark Jindrak, & Garrison Cade vs. Bubba, D'Von, & Spike Dudley History: The Dudleys and Jindrak/Cade's epic RAW feud from a few months ago. Description: Matt has exceptionally long eyelashes, and his house has four bathrooms. Why can't Lita find a mirror then? Alright, anyway Matt and D'Von start out.Matt hammers away in the corner, but does the V1 pose, opening him up for some punches from Big D. Matt regroups on the outside, and then tags in Jindrak. Jindrak hammers away, but D'von gains control with a running shoulderblock and a bodyslam, followed by a nearfall. D'Von tags in Bubba, who works Jindrak's arm. He then gets the headlock. Tag to Spike, who gets a double axe-handle on the tied-up Jindrak. Somehow Jindrak shoves it off and whips Spike into the corner, but Spike regains control by getting the boots up in time to hit the charging Jindrak in the face. Spike then hits the headscissors and does his little "I'm a little guy, so I'm gonna jump all over you in the corner; I think it's cool, but yeah, I am a little guy, so please sell it" move. Haha, I am a riot. Why doesn't WWE Marketing hire me? Anyway, Jindrak does sell it, which enables Spike to tag Big D back in. D'Von hammers away on Jindrak, but doesn't cut off the ring well, so Jindrak tags in Cade. Cade gets some offense in, but D'von eventually hits his reverse elbow off of the ropes. This gets Hardy's team all riled up, and they come in the ring. D'Von takes care of Jindrak and Hardy, but Cade comes out of nowhere with a hard clothesline. Cade then tries to be a tough guy and hammers on a defenseless Bubba on the apron. Cade maintains control over D'Von, even getting him into a headlock. D'Von powers out, however, and throws Cade into the Dudley corner. They attack, as D'Von watches on. As the ref is distracted by this, Hardy runs in and nails a back suplex on D'Von from behind. Cade tags Jindrak, who then stomps away on D'Von. Quick tag to Hardy, who does some stomping of his own. Hardy hammers away on Big D in the corner, and then hits the side effect. He gets a nearfall, and then proceeds to put D'Von in a resthold. D'Von powers out, but Hardy knocks him right back down, and tags in an anxious Cade, who then gets a nearfall of his own. Quick tag to Jindrak, who dropkicks D'Von and gets a nearfall as well. Jindrak whips D'Von into the corner and goes for a splash, but misses. D'Von makes the hot tag to Bubba, while Cade gets tagged in by Jindrak. Bubba dominates, and even holds off interference from Jindrak. Bubba then hits the spinning neckbreaker and gets a nearfall. Bubba hits a somoan drop and goes for the pin yet again, but this time it's interrupted by Jindrak. Bubba makes a blind-tag to Spike, who gets a flying cross-body on Cade. Spike goes for the pin, but has to abort when Hardy tries to break it up. If you didn't understand what I just said, Hardy tried to break it up, but ended up hitting Cade instead. All hell starts to break loose, as Bubba and Hardy brawl in the center. Bubba gets Hardy down and sets him up for the extremely out-dated "wazaaaa" drop. Yes, it's so outdated, I forgot how to spell it. D'Von hits it, and then they go for 3D, but Jindrak breaks it up. On the other side of the ring, Spike goes for the Dudley Dog, but that as well is broken up by Jindrak. Spike is stunned, and Cade gets the pin. Winners Matt Hardy, Mark Jindrak, & Garrison Cade by pinfall. Length: 6:44 Purpose: Matt Hardy finally gets his first win. Perhaps a singles feud with one of the Dudleyz? Or maybe they'll just prolong this Cade/Jindrak - Dudleyz feud. Either way, it's good to see the Dudleyz out of the tag title picture for a little while, so they can work with the younger guys.
The show ends with the RAW Hype. What exactly is Mr. McMahon's big announcement going to be?
Overall Comments: Very watchable show in my opinion. Good to see V.1 finally get a win. Hopefully the RAW writing team can get off their asses and give him something decent so he can go back to RAW. Oh yeah, and where was Stevie?
