--Opening Match, WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match: Team Angle (W/Kurt Angle’s framed picture) V. Los Guerreros. Kurt’s picture draws the biggest heel heat of the night. Cheat 2 Win is in full effect tonight, as Los Guerreros cheat like mofos. Team Angle goes fuck that, and cheats like mofos as well. Team Angle with the SWEET~ Leapfrog Buster, with Shelton getting some major hang time on that one. Eddie gets his SWEET~ Saito Suplex on Haas. Cool bit, as every time Eddie tries to get a tag, Team Angle uses some sort of amateur move to stop him. Shelton gets a really cool duck under Powerslam. Shelton just kills Eddie with a wicked Powerbomb. Rolling Verticals by Eddie. Eddie gets a Frog Splash on Haas. Chavo goes for a Backdrop Driver, but he’s too close to the ropes, and Shelton grabs his leg and holds on while Haas falls on top for the 3 at 15:03. ***½ Good opener. Post-match Chavo takes out Team Angle and Kurt’s picture with a Plancha, that’s just sacrilege. Los Guerreros steal the belts and take off in a lowrider.
Team Angle (1st Reign as WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions, 02/06/03 to present- 2 Defenses)
1. (03/30/03-WWE WrestleMania XIX) Team Angle beat Chris Benoit, Rhyno & Los Guerreros (8:47) with a Lateral Press. (1st Defense)
2. (04/27/03-WWE Backlash) Team Angle beat Los Guerreros (15:03) with a Lateral Press. (2nd Defense)
--Backstage Test hits on Torrie, but no dice. Grandma Sable watches the tender moment.
--Sean O’ Haire (W/Roddy Piper) V. Rikishi. First bad sign for Sean, they’ve given him really bad 80’s music for his entrance. Sean hit’s a vicious looking running knee to Rikishi’s face. Rikishi nails Piper in the head with a coconut, allowing Sean to hit his Death Valley Slam for the pin at 4:54. ½* Piper seemed to fuck up the finish, as he kept coming in the ring, and looking at the referee as if like “is this the time”, it just looked weird. When on offense, Sean did look real good.
--Grandma Sable gives Stacy the lowdown on Torrie & Test.
--WWE Tag Team Championship Match: Dudley Boys V. Rob Van Dam, Kane. Chief Morley is your special referee. RVD hits his Backflip Dropkick out of the corner. I’ve never liked that move, not when I first saw Ric Blade do it, and I still don’t like it when RVD does it, I mean, just dropkick the guy in his goddamn face. Buh Buh shocks me by actually using a Seated Dropkick on RVD. RVD gets his Monkey Flip attempt in the corner blocked by D-Von, who then turns it into his sick middle-rope Neckbreaker. Morley finally interferes with a ballshot to Kane, but further interference backfires as he nails Buh Buh by mistake. This all leads to the Dudleys taking Morley out with a Dudley Death Drop. RVD gets the pin on Buh Buh at the 13:00 minute mark with a Frog Splash. ** Disjointed, & a tad overbooked, but still good wrestling.
Ron Van Dam, Kane (1st Reign as WWE Tag Team Champions, 03/31/03 to present- 2 Defenses.)
1. (04/14/03-WWE Raw) Rob Van Dam, Kane beat Chief Morley, Lance Storm (15:19) with a Van Terminator. (1st Defense)
2. (02/27/03-WWE Backlash) Rob Van Dam, Kane beat Dudley Boys (13:00) with a Frog Splash. (2nd Defense.)
--Backstage Stacy & Torrie go at it.
--WWE Women’s Championship: Jazz (W/Theodore Long) V. Trish Stratus. Jazz does her Double Chicken-Wing Slam, which they’ve finally given a name to, either Bitch Slap or Clap depending on what Coach was actually saying. Cool spot as Jazz counters Trish’s middle-rope Rana into a Single-Leg Crab Slam. Trish gets a Springboard Bulldog, but Long stops the count by throwing his shoe at her and blaming it on the fan in a funny bit. Jazz gets the pin off a Rollup and use of the ropes at 5:51, as we have a new WWE Women’s champion. ** Good women’s wrestling.
--Big Show V. Rey Mysterio. Pretty much what I expected with Rey pulling off move after move, and Show no selling at random points. Show gets the pin with a Chokeslam at 3:47. ¾* They do an injury angle with Rey, which allows Show to pick up Rey, while strapped into the medic board, and swing him back first into the ringpost like a baseball bat. If the rumors of Rey hurting himself on the fall from slamming into the post are true, then way to go WWE.
--HHH, Jericho & Flair join us for some interview time. Jericho debuts his new Hulk Hogan mustache. Ric Flair also proceeds to get the biggest non-Rock pop of the night with one simple “WHOOO”.
--Backstage Torrie & Stacy go at it some more.
--WWE Heavyweight Championship Match: John Cena V. Brock Lesnar. Cena’s opening rap isn’t all that great tonight. Brock brings back the double Ribbreaker, Fallaway Slam combo. Brock busts out a Fisherman’s Suplex, that’s the first time I’ve seen him use that move in the WWE. Cena busts Brock open. Crowd starts a “Let’s Go Cena” chant. Cena hits his SWEET~ Rolling Ace Crusher. Brock gets the 3 with a F-5 at 15:12. *** All for Cena. Brock looked sloppy tonight, and appeared to be blown up around the 8 minute mark, whereas Cena was good the entire match.
Brock Lesnar (2nd Reign as WWE Heavyweight Champion, 03/30/03 to present- 1 Defense)
1. (04/27/03-WWE Backlash) Brock Lesnar beat John Cena (15:12) with a F-5. (1st Defense.)
--Handicap Match: HHH V. Kevin Nash, Shawn Michaels. What do you mean there’s three other people involved in this match. All the shows leading up to tonight only focused on these 3 guys, well isn’t that interesting?
--6-Man Tag Match: Chris Jericho, Ric Flair, HHH V. Booker T, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash. Jericho & Michaels have a nice little mini-match to start. Bad looking spot, as Michaels doesn’t even bother to lift his legs up for a Pedigree. Flair comes in, and man this crowd is popping for everything that Flair does. Long face-in-peril segment with Michaels. He finally gets the hot tag to Nash, as the crowd goes completely dead. They’re not popping for anything he does. Flair & Jericho do a cool Figure Four, Lionsault combo. Really bad looking ref bump, crowd groans at that. HHH gets the pin on Nash following a sledgehammer shot at 17:51. **½ The parts with Jericho/Michaels & anything involving Flair were good, the rest not so good.
--Rock gives a great interview, where by the time he’s done the crowd has a pretty good “Rocky” chant going.
--Rock V. Goldberg. WWE has managed to fuck up the simplest thing, as they’ve changed Goldberg’s music. It’s now been turned into a very soft, pussified WWE version of the original. Crowd is solidly behind Rock, and Goldberg is even getting some boos. Goldberg wins a shoving match, and gets booed for it. Goldberg Spear meets post, and the crowd erupts with a “Rocky” chant. Rock applies the WORLD’S SHITTIEST SHARPSHOOTER, but Goldberg makes the ropes. Rock nails Goldberg with a punch to the nuts that draws even more cheers. Spear & kip up by Rock bring even more cheers. Rock Bottom by Rock only gets 2. Boobirds come out for that one. People’s Elbow only gets 2, and the crowd starts a “Bullshit” chant for that one. Goldberg hits a Spear and a “Goldberg Sucks” chant breaks out. Goldberg raises his hand to signal for the Jackhammer Suplex, and the crowd boos him. God, I love this crowd. Goldberg gets the pin at 13:05 with a Jackhammer Suplex. *¾ Rock was good in this match, but it was clear Goldberg wasn’t ready to work any match longer than 3 minutes, as he turned into a stall machine after about the 2 minute mark.
--Final Flash: Well, this was certainly an interesting event. Team Angle/Los Guerreros owned, O’Haire looked impressive, Trish/Jazz was about as impressive as I thought it would be, and Cena, not Brock, was the impressive one in their match. Most interesting of all, was the complete apathy showed by the fans towards Kevin Nash, and the disdain the fans showed towards Goldberg. Nash, who the fans tonight didn’t care about, is supposed to be going into the world title picture, and Goldberg who the fans booed is supposed to be having a run as the top baby face, mighty interesting indeed.
